itSMF USA Whitepaper Competition!

itSMF USA is pleased to announce the 2013 Whitepaper Competition! The winning paper will be announced at FUSION 13, and the winner will receive a free itSMF USA membership good for one year. The winning paper will then be judged against winners from other chapters, and the global winner will be announced by the end of December 2013.

The whitepaper must be authored and submitted by an itSMF USA member, should be original work, and not previously published. Submissions will be evaluated against the following criteria:

  • Readability
  • Relevance to the itSMF USA membership
  • Technical accuracy
  • Currency of material and interest
  • Depth
  • Absence of obvious marketing of product, person or provider

The topic can be the author’s choice. The papers should be around 12 pages or fewer (3000 – 4000 words). They can contain images, charts and illustrations to reinforce the content.

The papers should be submitted in Word format. Layout should support readability, so break the content into readable / digestible chunks. Use headings, sub-headings and bullets to assist in maintaining the reader’s attention.

Each submission should include the following elements:

  • A title
  • Author’s name and organization
  • A short synopsis of the paper, outlining its content and purpose
  • An introductory section which details the scope of the paper and the issues that will be addressed within it
  • A summary section, which gives an overview of the content and the key learning points the reader should understand having read the document
  • Brief biography of the author
  • Signed Submission Details sheet (click here to download)

Submissions are permitted to display company logos in the header or footer of the document, and also on the front page.

Vendors are encouraged to submit papers, but their submissions must not recommend their products, consultancy or training offerings, or be critical of other vendors’ services.

By submitting the paper, the author gives itSMF USA and itSMF International the right to distribute and reuse the paper for a period of three years. IP ownership will remain with the author.

Whitepapers must be submitted to no later than September 30, 2013.

All submitted entries will be available for download from the Members’ only area of the itSMF USA website.
