ITIL® Lite

The initial impetus for the ITIL Lite concept and the new book ITIL® Lite – A lite approach to ITIL Implementation came from conversations between Malcolm Fry and numerous IT Service Management professionals concerning the implementation of ITIL v3. Two main concerns emerged; 1) where is the starting point for implementing ITIL v3 and 2) is it necessary to implement the whole of ITIL v3?

Note that the questions were not “should we implement ITIL v3?”, but “how should we go about implementing ITIL v3?” Which is why the ITIL Lite workshop and the book focus on implementing ITIL v3 either in full or in part. It is not a theoretical approach, but is a practical and hands-on approach explaining the steps that need to be taken to achieve an organization’s desired level of ITIL v3 implementation.

It is important to explain the reasoning and logic behind the concept of ITIL Lite. First of all it is not meant to compete with or in any way denigrate ITIL v3, rather it has been created to complement and assist organizations that are adopting or are thinking of adopting ITIL v3. There are many organizations who for different reasons, cannot or will not be implementing ITIL v3 in its entirety. There are also those organizations that are looking towards full ITIL v3 implementation but are confused as to where to start this journey. ITIL Lite is aimed at both of these groups; those who will not be fully implementing ITIL v3 and those who intend to fully implement ITIL v3 but are looking for a starting point.

The Workshop

Attend the limited engagement, hands-on workshop inspired by the OGC ITIL® Portfolio Product sanctioned book by author and industry luminary Malcolm Fry, ITIL® Lite – A lite approach to ITIL Implementation. This highly informative, engaging and entertaining one-day interactive workshop is presented, facilitated and taught by Malcolm Fry himself.

ITIL Lite could be described as:

“ITIL Lite is an approach to implementing key components of ITIL v3 to ensure a sound basis for IT Service Management either as a starting point for full implementation or as a deliverable for those not wishing to fully implement ITILv3.”

The objectives of ITIL Lite are to provide an approach to selecting the most appropriate ITIL v3 components for ITIL Lite and then understanding how to prepare a project to implement those selected components in a coherent and logical fashion.

This workshop is based upon a hands-on, interactive session detailing a step – by – step approach to implement a Lite version of ITIL. You will leave the workshop with the ability to prepare and follow a coherent plan to implement your own version of ITIL Lite when you return to your organization. The approach is logical and simplifies the often dark and complicated world of ITIL v3. Learn to explode the myths and expose the rational.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is aimed at a wide audience: from those considering whether to implement ITIL v3 to those who are trying to decide whether to implement ITIL to and those who are looking to build a project to implement full or partial ITIL v3. Among those who would benefit from attending the workshop are:

ITSM Professionals – this workshop provides a good basic understanding of how the various ITIL components can be linked and integrated in a logical and structured manner and as such is a valuable source to supplement and extend the traditional sources of ITIL education. ITSM professionals will find that this workshop will eliminate much of the mystique associated with ITIL v3.

Those considering implementing ITIL v3 – anyone who is considering implementing ITIL will find the workshop invaluable because it helps explain the journey that is required to implement ITIL and it is this journey that is such an important part of the decision to implement ITIL. Here the decision makers can gain vital information to help them prepare a case for ITIL implementation.

ITIL Project Leaders – the key to successful ITIL implementation, full or partial, is to build a logical project. This can be very difficult because there is not much project structure guidance available but this workshop breaks that mold because it is a step-by-step hands-on workshop helping attendees reduce the time required to create an ITIL project.

ITIL Project Team Members – it is important that those who will help build the project and those who will undertake some of the tasks in the project understand how the project has been constructed which is where the workshop will be invaluable. A great opportunity to get your entire team on the same wave-length and streamline your ITIL implementation.

ITSM Managers – ITSM managers should attend this workshop to ensure that the correct actions are being undertaken at the appropriate time. For example providing input into the component categorization to ensure that the components are correctly categorized. In addition the workshop will help ITSM managers better understand ITIL v3.

IT/ITSM Planners – these are the planners who are researching which projects will be undertaken in the near future. These planners often have a problem with ITIL implementations because they cannot see the whole picture. The ITIL Lite workshop provides an appropriate overview and insight into implementation of ITIL.

Senior IT Managers – senior IT managers who desire the capability to understand ITIL implementation and appropriately manage their organizations through the implementation process. The workshop also helps to quantify the view of ITIL as a complete service and not just as a series of numerous components.

Sundry IT Professionals- ITIL touches many parts of IT so it is quite possible that non-ITSM professionals may want to understand how they could be affected by ITIL.

IT Consultants and Trainers – the ITIL Lite workshop provides hands-on, interactive sessions with professional insights for those providing training and consulting on ITIL. Gain a new perspective on how to help organizations implement ITIL.
