Higher Education SIG

Higher Education Special Interest Group

Welcome to the newest itSMF USA Special Interest Group!

The Higher Ed SIG will provide opportunities to share with – and learn from – colleagues at other universities that are implementing IT Service Management using ITIL (and other related best practices).

While implementing ITIL processes makes sense for any IT shop, we are all well aware of the challenges which differentiate the academic and corporate environments. By listening, learning and sharing, you and others will benefit from participation regardless of your organization’s current stage, whether it is in the discovery process, mid-process implementation or with well-established processes.

Here are a few things we hope to offer in the future:

    • Live webcast events
    • Pre-taped sessions on process fundamentals
    • National on-site event (e.g., EDUCAUSE or itSMF conference)
    • On-line reference showing what other universities are doing (currently at www.technology.ku.edu/pdm/resources)

Sign up to be a member by contacting us via email. Initial forecasts are to conduct our first public meeting in January/February with additional sessions occurring in late-May, July/August and October of the same of 2009.

We expect this SIG will foster communication and collaboration amongst IT service management colleagues across many universities and aid the improvement of business and IT processes through the sharing of knowledge and experience.

The SIG Board is pleased to announce our first event, scheduled for February 4th, 2009:

  Higher Ed SIG:  Kick-Off Event!
Key note Speaker:  David Cannon
President itSMF USA
Co-author, ITIL v3 Service Operation

A panel discussion will immediately follow the presentation.

This event will be available online, will be locally hosted by
