Please join the itSMF USA Nations Capital Local Interest Group for this exciting meetup hosted by Capital One that will include presentations by Capital One’s DevOps lead and some of the leading Practitioners in the DevOps community who will be discussing their approach to implementing a Continuous Delivery Pipeline.

John Duquette, Sr. Manager Software Engineering at Capital One

John is leading the infrastructure and software modernization efforts at Capital One.  Prior to Capital One, John has spent several years in companies spanning California’s Silicon Valley to the Mid-Atlantic Technology Corridor, in many different capacities from Quality Assurance to Architecture.

John will be providing an overview of the Capital One DevOps Journey and Lessons Learned. The DevOps evolution for any organization, particularly one that is regulated by the SEC, is filled with many challenges.  This lessons learned talk will address some of the experiences with migrating to a DevOps culture with a focus on Continuous Delivery in the cloud.

Kurt Madel, Sr. Solutions Architect at Cloudbees

Kurt Madel is a Senior Solutions Architect for CloudBees in Richmond, VA. He has over 16 years of software engineering and architecture experience, including DevOps in real world scenarios.  Prior to joining CloudBees he was a Senior Manager at Capital One where he developed APIs for Apple Pay and helped lead their REST API initiative to include the streamlining of CI/CD processes.

Pipeline as Code is a highlighted feature of the Jenkins 2.0 release and its focus on Continuous Delivery.   Kurt’s presentation will explore managing your Jenkins Pipeline-as-code and explore the auto-creation of Jenkins Pipeline jobs via GitHub Organization scanning and multi-branch projects. See why Pipeline-as-code is a key enabler for taking Jenkins beyond just continuous integration (CI) to continuous delivery (CD).

Nathen Harvey, VP of Community Development at Chef

Nathen helps the community whip up an awesome ecosystem built around the Chef platform. Nathen also spends much of his time helping people learn about the practices, processes, and technologies that support DevOps, continuous delivery, and high velocity organizations. Prior to joining Chef, Nathen spent a number of years managing operations and infrastructure for a diverse range of web applications. Nathen is a co-host of the Food Fight Show, a podcast about Chef and DevOps.

Nathen will be discussing Successful Practices for Continuous Delivery. Infrastructure as Code and DevOps practices are necessary pre-requisites for safely adopting Continuous Delivery.  This talk will explore some of the practices your team will need to adopt to safely move fast, continuously delivering value to your customers.
